The West Rail is a railway construction that provides a direct rail link between urban Kowloon and the NWNT, as well as cross-boundary passenger and freight services. It is approximately 30.3 km long. The project was completed in 2 phases. Phase I - A domestic line linking Tuen Mun and urban Kowloon. Phase II - A new boundary crossing at Lok Ma Chau, served by both West Rail and East Rail and a new through train service via Lo Wu to West Kowloon. There is a freight service from the boundary at Lo Wu via Kam Tin and Tsuen Wan to a Port Rail Terminal at Kwai Chung. The West Rail now operates over 20 trains per hour and carries up to 35 passengers per car in 12-car trains.
