Western Harbour Crossing, Hong Kong
Western Harbour Tunnel Company

The Western Harbour Crossing is a dual three-lane immersed tube tunnel, 1.3 kilometers long and will be Hong Kong’s third cross-harbour road tunnel.  The tunnel provides a vital cross-harbour link between the West Kowloon Reclamation and Sai Ying Pun on Hong Kong Island, and is an integral part of the expressway system linking Hong Kong Island with the new airport at Chek Lap Kok. The tunnel is designed to accommodate a maximum of 180,000 vehicles per day and is expected to handle 75,000 vehicles a day soon after it opens in 1997.  The tunnel forms the southernmost section of Route 3 and connects the West Kowloon Expressway with Route 7 and the local road network on Hong Kong Island.  The project also included the construction of an interchange with Route 7 and a portion of this highway between Sheung Wan and Belcher Bay.
